Setting up Custom Pricing

In Taramala, you have two options for setting up pricing in classes and events. The default is Standard pricing. This is the simplest option that should be used as much as possible for your main classes. In standard pricing, standard punch cards and subscriptions can be used for any class that offers standard pricing. Similarly, there is a single drop in price that is offered for all classes. The other option is to use Custom pricing. With custom pricing you set up a custom drop in price just for that class or event. Note that custom pricing can only be used in events. With events, it's not possible to use standard pricing.

Taramala has a number of options for customizing how drop-ins, punch cards and subscriptions are priced when using custom pricing.

  • Set up donation based classes, perhaps a yoga class on the town common,
  • Price an event using a different price, perhaps with sliding scale.

In addition to setting a custom drop in price, you can also setup custom punch cards and subscriptions. As an example, you could setup a custom punch card 'Tai Chi 5 Pack' for a Tai Chi class that is offered every Wednesday.

This section goes through these options.

Custom Pricing Options

For simplicity most classes will paid a standard drop in fee or students can use punch cards or subscriptions for payment. Still, especially for events, custom pricing is needed. Taramala supports custom pricing directly in the class or event edit page.

Custom pricing can be setup when editing classes and events in the setup tab. Custom pricing is always set for events, for classes simply select the class select 'Custom Pricing'.

Once custom pricing is enabled you have the following options:

  • setup a sliding price schedule,
  • setup a price to be listed as a donation,
  • support your member subscribers by offering free access to an event,
  • options to allow students to use punch cards or subscriptions as an alternate form of payment.

Support for Donations

Students can be prompted for an optional donation when registering for a class as shown below. The donation can be a fixed amount or a sliding scale amount.

Allowing Subscriptions and Punch cards as Payment

When punch cards are allowed for payment, the student will be given the option to either pay the custom price or pay using a punch card when registering for a class.

When subscriptions are allowed for payment, the student is essentially offered this class or event for free as a benefit for being a subscriber.

Custom Packages for Punchcards & Subscriptions

Custom packages allow you create punchcard and subscription packages specifically for one or more classes. For example, if you want to offer a yin yoga class and offer it at a price that is more than your standard price and offer punchcards specifically for that class. In that scenario, you can create a Yin Yoga punch card and turn on custom pricing for that class and assign the Yin Yoga punch card to that class. Custom subscription support can be useful for non-standard subscriptions such as support for teacher training or online content or even for access to studio yoga mats.

Note that custom punchcards can only set on classes and events with custom pricing enabled, they cannot be set on classes that are using standard pricing.

In this example, you would have already created a custom punch card in Setup/Packages. In the create dialog, select the 'Custom Pricing' checkbox. It's not possible to edit this field once the package type has been created.

Once created, these custom punch cards can be associated with a class.

Once setup, students will be able to by these punch cards that can only be used for specific classes. This allows you to price the punch card differently from the regular studio punch cards.

Note that custom package support is not offered as part of the BASIC plan.
